Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator / Operator Trainee

 

The Borough of Highspire is presently seeking to fill the position of Operator / Operator Trainee at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.  This position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all treatment plant processes and collection system, and observes all safety procedures under the direction of the Public Works Superintendent and/or his designee; reports to Public Works Superintendent; maintains effective communications and working relationships with superiors and other Borough employees.  Essential functions; operate and maintain treatment plant equipment and vehicles; collect samples and perform laboratory and analyses as required; inspect plant equipment and processes and reports any unusual conditions, monitors meters, gauges, and control panels; maintains and evaluate operating records and shift logs; follow written standard operating procedures (SOPS) for all areas of treatment plant operation, including seasonal changes and emergency procedures; perform routine maintenance functions, including preventive and corrective maintenance on all treatment plant equipment; perform various housekeeping functions such as miscellaneous cleaning, painting, cutting grass and snow removal; measures, prepare and handles various chemicals; performs collection system maintenance; provide recommendations to the Public Works Department relative to the operation and adjustment of treatment plant equipment and processes and perform other related work as required and or directed.  Applicants may work non-traditional hours and must also be able to respond to emergency call-outs after normal work hours. Applicants must have a High School Diploma or G.E.D.  A valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License, Class B (preferred.) A Pennsylvania Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate is desirable with the ability to obtain a Class B, subclassification 1, Certificate as soon as possible. Prior experience working in a wastewater treatment facility is preferred, but not required. The employee must successfully pass a criminal background check, physical examination, and drug test.
