The Mount Joy Borough Authority (an Equal Opportunity Employer) is seeking applications for the position of wastewater operator. The successful candidate will assist in all phases related to the safe and efficient operations of our wastewater treatment plant and collections system including pumping stations. Preferred, but not required, is a current PA DEP Wastewater Class B certification including Subclasses 1 and 4. Previous mechanical or technical skills relating to a field that can be essential to wastewater operations is beneficial. Applicants must have the ability to lift over 50 lbs., demonstrate physical ability to withstand walking or standing for long periods of time, bending, reaching, and perform work in all weather conditions. A valid PA motor vehicle license is required, and a PA Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class B with Air Brakes and Tanker Endorsement must be obtained within 12 months of employment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate treatment plant to process wastewater, sludge, and maintain effluent quality.
  • Perform routine maintenance on treatment plant, sewage pump stations, and collection system.
  • Perform routine laboratory testing.
  • Operate mobile television and combination vac/flusher truck to conduct internal inspections of sewer lines and eliminating obstructions, such as roots, grease, and other deposits.
  • Respond to PA One Calls, including emergencies, field mark Authority owned water and sewer lines.

This position also requires the ability to work rotating weekend shifts and the ability to be on-site within ½ hour for emergency on-call work, and ability to work overtime as needed. Successful candidate must pass complete background investigation including reference, employment, criminal and driving, pre-employment medical examination and drug and alcohol screening.
