IT Technician
Overview:
The Altoona Water Authority is seeking a motivated individual for the position of IT Technician. This role offers an excellent opportunity to start your career in the public sector, focusing on water and wastewater operations.
Responsibilities:
- Assists in the planning, design, development of new applications and enhancements to existing applications.
- Completes computer service by installation or upgrade/design of computer hardware and software.
- Conducts research on hardware and/or software products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts.
- Creates and/or modifies computer programs by reviewing input data and output requirements for plant computers and remote terminal units (RTU’s).
- Ensures compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems.
- Assist to ensures efficient operation of instrumentation, control and/or electro-mechanical equipment.
- Troubleshoot and maintain radio telemetry systems.
- Maintains informational management support by completing specified records, logs and/or reports.
- Independently procures components or materials by utilizing procedures.
- Provides orientation and training to end users for all modified and new systems.
- Reviews and analyses the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and develop strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
- Maintains, upgrades or modifies existing and/or project related physical security system elements such as Servers, cameras, door access and reporting.
Qualifications:
- Two (2) year degree in digital electronics, electro-mechanical engineering technology, computer science, information science, management information systems (MIS) or other related field.
- On the job experience in maintaining various types of information systems, Server administration, Installation of Network Equipment and Design & Implementation is required.
- Valid motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

- Communicate orally and in written form, duties and instructions with supervisors and subordinates.
- Communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
- Complete arithmetical calculations involving fractions, decimals & percentages.
- Conduct research into systems issues and products as required.
- Demonstrate analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
- Diagnose malfunctions in various systems and complete corrective measures.
- Effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Increase job knowledge by attending conferences, seminars and workshops.
- Interpret technical manuals, drawings, specifications, layouts, blueprints and schematics.
- Maintain effective working relations with supervisors, associates and the general public.
- Oversee the design, development, and implementation of software and hardware solutions, systems or products
