Overview: Ford City Borough is seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Relief Water Operator. This role is ideal for candidates who are interested in developing their skills in water treatment and distribution, with the potential to become the primary operator within the next year. We offer training and certification opportunities for the right candidate. This position provides backup coverage to the primary operator and ensures safe and efficient operations of the borough’s water treatment facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of the borough’s water treatment and distribution systems.
  • Perform regular water quality testing and sampling to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Maintain and repair water system infrastructure, including pumps, filters, valves, and distribution lines.
  • Respond to water system emergencies, such as leaks or contamination, to minimize service disruptions.
  • Stay updated on regulations governing water treatment, including compliance with DEP and EPA standards.
  • Provide excellent customer service by addressing inquiries and concerns related to water quality and availability.

Qualifications:

  • Certification: Pennsylvania DEP Water Treatment Plant Operator or Water Distribution System Operator certification preferred. Training and certification provided if necessary.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in water treatment or environmental science is a plus.
  • Experience: Experience in water system operations and maintenance is preferred but not required for applicants willing to pursue training.
  • Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving, and excellent communication skills.

Physical Requirements: This is a physically demanding role requiring manual labor and the ability to respond to emergencies under various weather conditions.
