Electrical Technician
Overview:
The Altoona Water Authority is seeking a motivated individual for the position of Electrical Technician. This role offers an excellent opportunity to start your career in the public sector, focusing on water and wastewater operations.
Responsibilities:
- Completes job tasks by prioritizing daily work assignments and maintaining a parts inventory of standard electrical equipment.
- Completes new electrical installations by installing conduit, wiring, and associated support systems.
- Complies with local, state, and other related electrical codes and standards by coordinating with vendors and contractors; and by directing and completing various necessary job-specific work
- Implements changes, expansions, and additions to electrical system by identifying problems, being apprised of new developments, and utilizing statistical and historical documents.
- Interfaces current to outdated equipment by adapting and changing various electrical/electronic/HVAC systems.
- Maintains electrical / electronic systems, and other specialized equipment for use in a standard safety manner by developing, implementing, and evaluating preventative and routine maintenance programs.
- Maintains emergency generator systems source by developing, implementing, and evaluating a preventative and routine maintenance program.
- Maintains safe working environment by cleaning, storing, and organizing work area and/or tools.
- Procures immediate and unanticipated parts and materials by acquiring purchase order and contacting approved vendor/agent and/or retrieving parts ordered.
- Provides information/management support by preparing reports and records.
Qualifications:
- Two (2) year Associate degree in one of the following Technologies: Electrical Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical/Electro-mechanical Technology.
- Minimum two years of experience in one or more of the following: maintaining various plant electrical power distribution systems; motor control systems; process control and analytical devices; PLC’s and computer control systems.
- Must supply own hand tools.
Skills and Abilities:
- Assess problems and formulate remedies.
- Interpret technical manuals, drawings, and specifications, including layouts, blueprints and schematics.
- Follow complex oral and/or written instructions.
- Complete arithmetical calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Diagnose and complete corrective measures for malfunctions/deficiencies in electrical/electronic/HVAC and various specialized systems.
- Communicate orally and in written form duties and instructions with supervisors, vendors, and peers.
- Perform moderate manual labor for prolonged periods of time, often under adverse conditions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relations with supervisors, vendors, associates, and the general public.
- Use independent judgment and discretion concerning the method of repair after having received oral and/or written work orders, setting forth a complaint with respect to the operating condition of the equipment.
- Provide on-the-job training to peers for various maintenance repairs.
- Oversee the design, development, and implementation of software and hardware solutions, systems or products
