Title: Water Plant Operator

Reports to: Harmony Borough Water Authority Supervisor

Duties Summary

The major function of this position is to oversee operation of the water treatment plant in a manner which ensures safe water for human consumption.

This position also requires daily logs and maintenance of Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Environmental Protection Reports for the water treatment plant. Additional duties are Water Plant Maintenance, changing meters, cutting grass and assisting in infrastructure rehabilitation and maintenance, and water leak repairs.

Help in Borough may be required on a as needed basis.  (Grass, leaf pick-up, snow removal, etc.)

Distinguishing Characteristics

Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position. This includes performing physical labor, working outdoors under varying climatic conditions, and having normal color perception.

Examples of Essential Duties

Testing water samples for compliance.

The preceding duties have been provided as examples of the essential types of work performed by positions within this job classification. Council reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind work assignments as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of: Operating and maintaining motors, pumps, chemical feeders, chlorinators, recorders, and related equipment.

Ability to: Do water treatment lab testing, inspection of tools and equipment, flushing of fire hydrants, procurement of necessary supplies, and other duties as assigned.

Must have the ability to work overtime hours, if requested by the department supervisor, to assist during work shortages, during unexpected emergencies and/or when mechanical failures occur.

Education: High School Diploma.

Experience: Two (2) years’ experience a plus but not needed

Certifications and/or Licenses

A PA DEP Certification for Class C Drinking Water is preferred, or the ability to obtain license within two years of employment is required. The Authority will assist in the training and cost to obtain a license.

Physical Tasks and Environmental Conditions

Must be able to lift 80 pounds.
